How to connect Coinbase Wallet to Hyperliquid

Verified against Hyperliquid docs: How to start trading and Hyperliquid docs: Referrals · by Hyperliquid Academy

The two Coinbase products, and which one connects

Your Coinbase account — the one you buy USDC in — is custodial. Coinbase holds the assets and there is no address that belongs to you.

Coinbase Wallet is self-custodial: a recovery phrase, an address, and a signing key you hold. Same company, different product, and only this one can connect to Hyperliquid.

Your Hyperliquid account is a wallet address. A custodial login does not have one, so the exchange account can fund you but can never be you.

If you live in the United States

Residents of the United States and of Ontario, Canada are Restricted Persons under the Hyperliquid Terms of Use and may not use the exchange. Holding a Coinbase account changes nothing about that, and we do not publish workarounds. The honest answer for US readers.

Connecting

Coinbase Wallet is one of the six buttons in the dialog, so there is no WalletConnect step on desktop.

The Hyperliquid wallet chooser listing Log in with Email, MetaMask, Brave Wallet, WalletConnect, OKX Wallet and Coinbase Wallet
  1. Install Coinbase Wallet and write down the recovery phrase

Install from your browser’s own extension store. The phrase is the account; anyone who reads it can take everything, and nobody can undo it.

You should see the extension unlocked, and the phrase on paper

  2. Open the app through a referral link

The 4% discount attaches only to a wallet that has never traded, so this goes before everything else. It cannot be added later.

You should see an invitation panel naming the code, before you connect

  3. Click Connect, then Coinbase Wallet

On mobile, open app.hyperliquid.xyz inside the Coinbase Wallet app’s own browser and press the same button.

You should see the extension asking to connect, then your address in the top-right corner

  4. Accept the terms, then sign them

Accepting the Terms of Use, Privacy Policy and cookie policy is recorded as a signature, not just a click. It is gas-free. Confirm the request comes from app.hyperliquid.xyz.

You should see two ticked checkboxes, then a signature request of type Hyperliquid:AcceptTerms

  5. Click Establish Connection and sign the agent approval

A second gas-free signature, type ApproveAgent. It authorises order placement through an agent key and cannot withdraw funds.

You should see the order ticket becoming active

The account guide has a screenshot of every prompt in that sequence.

Moving USDC across from a Coinbase account

Two hops, and the network choice is the only place it goes wrong.

  1. Withdraw USDC to your own wallet address

On the send screen, choose a network Hyperliquid accepts for USDC — Arbitrum, Ethereum, Base or Polygon — and paste your own address. Read the network selector rather than assuming the default.

You should see USDC arriving in Coinbase Wallet on the network you chose

  2. Keep a little of that network's gas token

The deposit is an on-chain transfer and needs gas. Trading on Hyperliquid itself does not.

You should see enough of the native token to sign one transaction

  3. Deposit into Hyperliquid from the wallet

Select USDC and the same chain in the deposit window. 0.2 USDC is deducted from the amount, as the window states. Every route, compared.

You should see a USDC balance on your Perps account within a few minutes

Send native USDC, and send a test first

The costly mistake is a wrapped or bridged variant on a chain that otherwise looks correct. Send a few dollars the first time a destination is new. It costs cents of gas and removes the only failure here with no way back.

What it costs once you are trading

Cost of a $10,000 taker order as each discount is added

  • Base rate, no discounts $4.50 0.045% Tier 0, nothing staked
  • With referral code $4.32 0.0432% 4% off, applies from trade one
  • Referral + Silver staking $3.67 0.03672% Over 1K HYPE staked and linked
  • Referral + Diamond staking $2.59 0.02592% Over 500K HYPE staked and linked
  • Everything, at the top volume tier $1.38 0.01382% Over $7B of 14-day volume as well

The wallet has no effect on your fees. At the entry tier a taker order is 0.045% of notional, or 0.0432% with a code applied before the first trade. The levers, ranked puts maker orders ahead of everything else.

Troubleshooting

The wrong extension opens. Two wallets are competing for the injected slot. Disable one, or use a separate browser profile.

Withdrawal from Coinbase is on hold. Exchanges hold new withdrawal addresses for review. That is their process, not a Hyperliquid problem, and the funds have not moved yet.

Sent, but nothing shows in the wallet. Switch your wallet to the network you sent on. A wallet showing nothing is usually a wallet looking at the wrong chain.

Deposited, but no balance on Hyperliquid. Check Spot rather than Perps first; transferring between them is instant and free. The full checklist covers the rest.

Where to go next

The wallet comparison covers all six options, including email login for people who would rather not install anything. Once funded, the ten-minute walkthrough ends with a position that has a stop on it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send USDC from Coinbase directly to Hyperliquid?

You can send to your Hyperliquid deposit address, but only on a network Hyperliquid accepts and only as native USDC. Withdrawing to your own wallet first is safer, because a mistake there is recoverable and a mistake at the bridge is not.

Is Coinbase Wallet the same as my Coinbase account?

No. The account is custodial, with a login and no address you control. Coinbase Wallet is self-custodial, with a recovery phrase, and it is the one that can connect.

Which network should I choose when withdrawing?

One Hyperliquid accepts for USDC deposits: Arbitrum, Ethereum, Base or Polygon. Arbitrum is the common choice. Whatever you pick on the withdrawal screen must match the deposit chain you pick afterwards.

I am in the United States. Does any of this apply?

Residents of the United States are Restricted Persons under the Hyperliquid Terms of Use and cannot use the exchange. Having a Coinbase account does not change that, and this guide does not offer a way around it.

Does Coinbase Wallet work on mobile?

Yes, through the browser built into the Coinbase Wallet app, where the same button in the chooser works. On desktop it is a browser extension.
