Hyperliquid wallet not connecting: fixes

The three causes, in order of likelihood

Work down the list. Each one takes under a minute to rule out.

1. Two extensions are fighting

The browser gives one extension the injected-wallet slot, and installing a second wallet does not create a second slot. Whichever registered last usually wins.

Symptoms: Connect does nothing at all, or the wrong wallet opens.

The fix: disable the wallet you are not using, or pick yours by name in the chooser rather than clicking whatever is default. The chooser names MetaMask, Brave Wallet, OKX Wallet and Coinbase Wallet, plus WalletConnect for everything else.

Rabby users: this is not a bug

Rabby is not listed by name in the chooser, and it does not need to be. It takes over the MetaMask slot, so clicking MetaMask opens Rabby. That looks alarming the first time and is exactly how it is meant to work. If both are installed and the wrong one opens, disable the other or set Rabby’s priority in its own settings.

2. A stale session

The site thinks you are connected, your wallet thinks otherwise, or the reverse.

The fix, in this order: remove the site from your wallet’s connected sites list, refresh the page, connect again. That resolves it much more often than clearing your whole browser cache, and costs you nothing else.

If it persists, try a private window. A clean profile with no extensions but the one you want isolates the problem in seconds.

3. You are further through the flow than you think

This is the one people mistake for a failure rather than a step.

Connecting a wallet is four prompts, not one:

None of the four can withdraw. MetaMask states it explicitly on the first one: “Cannot move funds without your permission.”

The third prompt is where people stop, because a signature request they were not expecting appears and the instinct is to close it. The account guide walks through each prompt with a screenshot, which is the fastest way to check yours looks right.

Mobile

Two routes, and neither is the desktop flow.

Use your wallet’s in-app browser, which is the more reliable option, or WalletConnect to pair from a wallet app. The prompt sequence is the same four steps once connected.

Phantom, Trust and most mobile wallets go through WalletConnect because they are not named in the chooser. That is a routing detail, not a compatibility problem.

The one that is not a connection problem

If the address connects fine but shows a balance you do not recognise, nothing is broken. Your Hyperliquid account is the wallet address, so a different account inside the same wallet is a different Hyperliquid account, with its own balance, positions and fee tier.

This catches Phantom users in particular, because Phantom keeps a separate address per chain family and Hyperliquid authenticates the EVM one. Our Phantom guide covers that specifically.

Before you try anything else

Check the domain. Hundreds of lookalike domains exist for this exchange, and a connection problem is an oddly common thing to have on a fake one. Reach the app from a bookmark, and if a signature request looks unfamiliar, that is the feature working rather than a fault to click through. Frequently asked questions

Why does the Connect button do nothing?

Usually a second wallet extension intercepting the request. Disable the others and try again, or pick your wallet by name in the chooser rather than clicking the default option.

Why does MetaMask open when I wanted Rabby?

Because Rabby is not listed separately: it takes over the browser's injected-wallet slot, which is the slot MetaMask normally occupies. With Rabby installed, clicking MetaMask opens Rabby. There is no Rabby button to click instead.

I connected but the site still shows disconnected.

A stale session. Remove the site from your wallet's connected-sites list, refresh the page, and connect again. This fixes it far more often than clearing the whole browser cache.

How many signatures should I expect?

With a wallet, four prompts: connect, accept the terms, sign that acceptance, then sign Establish Connection. None of them can move your funds. Email login has no signature step at all.

A signature request looks wrong. What do I do?

Do not approve it. Check the domain character by character against your bookmark. A legitimate request will say Hyperliquid:AcceptTerms or HyperliquidTransaction:ApproveAgent; a request to approve a token or transfer at this point is not part of the flow.
